Kunthi
I am very excited that I have a good opportunity to write my personal information to you. I am Sokunthi, 22 years old, and I have one sister and brother. I am a second daughter in my family. Today, I am living in Chhoue Teal village.I am living with my mother and younger brother. My elder sister got married five years ago and she went to live with her husband in other province far from us. My father passed away when I was 14. So everything in my family is my mother’s responsibility but unfortunately she has been sick for 3 years because of high blood pressure. Although, we have tried with many doctors and traditional treatments she still cannot find a cure. Later on, her disease was getting more and more serious so, half of her body could not work anymore. We are very sad about this and our living condition became worse and worse. My younger brother and I have to earn money to support my family and spend for my mother’s medicine. I spend my time farming and going to school and I have no money to study at private school and I knew Friend Economic Development Association (FEDA) that gave a chance to study English without paying I was happy and studied hard then I became an outstanding student in my class.
Luckily, I was chosen to work for this association as English teacher. Every day I teach many students and all of them come from poor families the same as mine so I am happy with this job. According to people economic in my community they could not afford to send their children to study at private school or getting high education. They get a little income by farming such as growing rice, crops, fruits and feed animals and the problem is they practice the traditional agriculture all of their growing is based on what comes from the sky. It means that if there is no rain the rice paddy and other crops die out in field.
So, some people have decided leave their home, wife, kids and village to find a job. Sometimes, they work as construction site workers or others in the city. Some children stop studying because they have to help their parents at the farm land.
In the future, I would to create an organization to help my people by providing informal education like technical farming, vacancy education and free education for children who come from poor families to have equal chance as the rich ones. Yet, I need your support because I want to continue my study at university for English education. By this way I can improve my teaching more and have enough ability to do so. Based on my current situation I am not able to get my goal and make my dream become true.
All in all, I think that only education can help people in my community and only your support which can help me to study and I will take my knowledge back to teach poor children and research more technical things to improve their living condition and I hope that you will help me as you can.
Thank you in advance for your charity.
