Dane

I name is Dane and I am single, 18 years old. I live in Ksach Poy village. There are seven members in my family. They are my grandmother, my parents, older sister, older brother, and my younger sister. My father is living with disability, imputed right arm, caused by the sugar cane machine accident in 2000 when he was earning money to support my family’s daily living. Since my father lost his arm we now find it difficult with daily living due to lack of people who can earn income for the family. My parents are too old so that my older sister had to drop out the school only grade 11 to help the family.

Nowadays, my mother is working hard to earn money for my family by doing very small business by selling in a small shop in front of my house. For me and my younger sister we are still at school. I am studying in grade 12 at High School and my younger sister is in grade 9 at secondary School. Every day my sister and I allocate the time for helping my parents.

We are not only my family is poor in my village, but there are more families in the village are also poor because they have come from the killing fields in Pol Pot Regime and Cambodian civil war, too. On the other hand they lack skills, knowledge and resource to start income generation activities for each family and with lack of support from government in term of income activities. This is the main reason why most of students drop out of school during secondary school or high school and they turn to work for getting wage to add for their economics in the family.

In term of my commitment for the better future living for me and my family, as well as improving my community development, I have to commit to get a grade award and then to study until complete the university so that I can be able to get knowledge, skills, experiences, professional to obtain the better job. So I can support my family and community. When I finish University I wish to work in the development sector such as rural development works, community development works, or charity works for human nation. If I am successful to get this job I will be able to help my family and community in terms of improving the living standard.

It’s a great hope for me that the school has let me write my personal story and hope it will try to find fund as the scholarship to help me. However, to achieve my goal I have to study hard and I need money, study materials and the other things. So that I appeal to generous donors inside as well as outside the country to support me until I complete the university.
